A Reckoning for the NDIS & Its Gatekeepers
You say #NDIS is unsustainable.
You say we're too expensive, too hard to manage, too many, too complex. You roll out new reforms, new rules, new systems, always dressed up in the language of “fairness” & “integrity”, but we see what it really is: a slow dismantling of our lives.
Let’s drop the PR & call it what it is:
A coordinated campaign to make Autistics & our carers the #public scapegoat for a failing system you created. A system that gaslights us into silence, drowns us in bureaucracy, & then has the audacity to blame us for drowning.
📉 Life Expectancy for #Autistic People in Australia: 38 years. Statistical fact. Let that sink in. That's what you get when you underfund, undervalue, & gaslight an entire population.
While you’re in your boardrooms fiddling with “value for money” & “cost curves,” our people are dying decades too early. While you’re tweaking #policy language & hiding behind spreadsheets, we’re dying. From suicide. From neglect. From poverty. From a system that considers them a cost before it ever considers them a human.
Mental illness? We top every chart. Anxiety, depression, PTSD & it’s not because of autism,
it’s because of how you treat autistic people.
Poverty? We're overrepresented. The majority of us live below the poverty line. Many of us can't work, not because we’re unwilling,
but because the world you built isn’t accessible.
Homelessness? We’re there too. #Disabled kids sleep in cars, shelters, hospitals, unsafe homes, while you worry about “scheme leakage.”
Comorbidities? Name one, we probably have it.
Ehlers-Danlos. Epilepsy. Gut disorders. ADHD.
And still, you claim we’re exaggerating. You cut supports. You force #reassessments that retraumatise us & then, when we break, you blame us for breaking.
But let’s not pretend this is just policy. This is moral rot. This is ableism wearing a taxpayer-friendly face. This is #eugenics through spreadsheet. Every time you say we cost too much, you are making a public declaration that our lives are worth less.
You aren’t #reforming the system. You are engineering exclusion and calling it sustainability.
You don’t listen to our stories. You don’t believe our data. You say we're “too emotional” when we cry for help, “too difficult” when we demand justice & “too expensive” just for existing.
Well guess what?
We’re not going anywhere.
We are louder than your lies, stronger than your spin, & smarter than your reforms.
If you cut services, #restrict plans, surveil us, undermine self-management & choice & control, don’t pretend you didn’t know what you were doing.
Don’t pretend we weren’t clear. This is not a misunderstanding. This is a deliberate betrayal of the people you promised to protect.
We are not broken. Your system is.
