Three Perth boys have started a charity that aims to enhance the lives of those living with autism.

Luke Hallam, Sam Moyle and Tom Johnston take children and young adults on the autism spectrum out of their comfort zones and into the ocean - helping to break down barriers to develop confidence and self-belief.

"Some of the kids are quite anxious when they go out and then they catch a wave and you see their face light up like a light switch. They just start beaming and smiling," Luke Hallam told 9NEWS.

CJ Wallace responds incredibly well to the stimulating of surfing. His mother Marnie said the Ocean Heroes Program has had a huge impact on her son - both mentally and physically.

"The body brain connection... it improves. They seem to have a weak core and the surfing, it seems to connect new neurons in the brain," Marnie Freeman said.

“All the volunteers love surfing and love water and often it’s difficult to see who’s enjoying it more, the volunteers or the kids,” Tom Johnston said.
