Autism – Evolution in the Making

Every now and then I get to thinking on the subject of why there is such a massive increase in the number of diagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorders. Particularly when I read or see something on the subject. There is the fact that there is more awareness and better methods of diagnosing, however that may account for some of the increase, but not all.

DSM-5 Changing Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnosis

The way in which Autism Spectrum Disorders, including Asperger's Syndrome, are diagnosed are going to radically change in May 2013. At the moment the DSM-4 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders ) criteria is being used to diagnose and categorise Autism Spectrum Disorders, within the Spectrum there are currently 2 main categories – Autism and Aspergers.

At some stage your child within the Autism Spectrum of Disorders will reach puberty. It can be a difficult time for a child and parents of a child without a disability, and so for a child with a disability like Autism it can be all the more difficult.

Coping with Autism Spectrum Disorder Meltdowns and Behaviours.
