Who and What is A4?
On Sunday, 1st September 2002, people interested in
forming a national, grassroots Autism and Aspergers Advocacy organisation met in
Albury, NSW. The meeting decided to form such an organisation and that it
should be called "A4 - Autism & Aspergers Advocacy Australia".
A steering committee was formed and was initially convened by Judy
Brewer-Fischer.
Autism & Aspergers Advocacy Australia was launched at 5pm
on Tuesday, 12th November 2002, at the Inaugural World Autism Congress 2002.
The launch included a comprehensive briefing about the
roles and aims of A4.
Autism & Aspergers Advocacy Australia was formed in response to the growing
demand from people with autism spectrum condition and their families who wish to
have a more direct involvement in raising the profile of autism-related issues
with the decision-makers, to government and the media. The aim of the advocacy
organisation is to provide a voice on a national and a state and territory level
for individuals and groups across Australia.
The current convenor is Bob Buckley
