Parliamentary Breakfast for autism spectrum disorders, May 2008

On 27 May 2008, Autism Aspergers Advocacy Australia joined with the Australian Advisory Board on Autism Spectrum Disorders (AABASD), the Office of Bill Shorten MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children's Services and the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs in hosting a Parliamentary Breakfast at Parliament House. There were 96 registered guests, mostly politicians.

An Audience with Autism

Autism Aspergers Advocacy Australia (A4) held the first national autism awareness event in front of the public entrance to Parliament House on September, 2004.


The event started with a walk from Old Parliament House to the forecourt of Parliamant House. Initially people gathered near Old Parliament House.

Comedy Night with Roy & HG

Comedians from around Australia will come together to help raise money to provide more services for people with autism and their families.

Inquiry into Equal Employment Opportunity

The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) is holding an Inquiry into Equal Employment Opportunity and Participation for People with Disabilities (see http://www.hreoc.gov.au/disability_rights/employment_inquiry/index.htm).

Review of the Lists of Recognised Disabilities

FaCS Review of  the Lists of Recognised Disabilities

Submission to this review ultimately resulted in Asperger's syndrome being added to the list (autism was already on the list). The main result is a simpler process for getting Carer's Allowance in relation to a child with Asperger's syndrome; and the outcome is longer-lasting.
